Old Town, New TownGramercy, NYCFirst image for new gallery, Imagio. Here is where I'll put images that are some combination of photo and art treatment. This shot I like because, to me, it harkens back to the European black & whites of the 50s, the NYC black & white street/building photos of the 50s/60s and cultural photos of the 60s/70s, and the colorblocked, high-contrast, posterized photos of the 80s/90s.

Watching the "Parade"Upper East Side, NYC"Grimaces and Misery—The Saltimbanques, 1888Oil on canvas, in five sectionsFernand Pelez (French, 1848–1913)Too large to be ignored at the Salon of 1888, Velez's commanding *parade* scene went on vie just before the close of the exhibition at the Salon des Indépendants that featured Seurat's representation of the same subject. True to form for an artist who made no secret of his sympathies for the downtrodden in trenca=hant, life-size depictions, Grimaces and Misery — The Saltimbanques presents a lineup of circus performers whose lot does not improve with age: unsmiling young acrobats, sniveling in the corner in sagging tights, give way to miserable, world-weary musicians across a twenty-oft stage. On the face of it — from the quizzical dwarf to the white-faced clown — this epic naturalist painting would seem to have nothing in common with Seurat's stylized conception. And yet in each brooding masterpiece, the players take their place on a shallow stage, aligned in frieze like formation in a tripartite arrangement.Grimaces and Misery drew mixed reviews in 1888. Faulted for its dry and uninspired reportage, it also aroused deep sentiments, triggering heartfelt concern and rapt appreciation for its penetrating characterization of human suffering. The following year it was awarded a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1889."

Park Avenue South TaxisGramercy, NYCCity shots are always served with a bit of high contrast and higher color saturation. It accentuates the vibrancy and energy of metropolises. New York City is no exception, especially when you add in the element of traffic in motion — such as NYC's iconic yellow taxis zipping up and down Park Avenue South.

Halftone LisaUPPER EAST SIDEI don't even know what inspired me to to give this picture of my friend Lisa the "graphic photo" treatment (i.e., "artifying" it) but I do like the lowering of exposure, the bumping up of the contrast, the slight desaturation of color, and the almost printed art book look of the overlayed color halftone pixelation. To me it actually gives the image a visual texture that makes the details of her face more organic and evocative.

Spring Street B-BallSoho, NYC As a native New Yorker, it is always nice to see pockets of the visuals of the city I grew up in, like when I'm down in long gentrified NYC neighborhood of Soho and see — and hear — a rigorous pickup game of basketball going on.Felt an stylized treatment of the image I captured would better express the energy, grittiness, and city vibe of what was going on and of how it made me feel to come across it. It's been decades since I've been on a public outdoor basketball court, but every time I happen upon one I get the same urge to lace up and call "Next!"
