Mecca on SecondUpper East Side, NYCMy Bryn Mawr freshman step-niece, Mecca — finding herself with friends at the Met Museum right by apartment on the Upper East Side — kindly walked the 12 minutes east to visit and catch up with me. Though very cold outside, she kindly posed for a quick small collection of portraits out on Second Avenue during that brief, camera-kind spot of "magic hour".

Louris, MoMA Store ClerkMidtown, NYCMoMA, as of today, is showcasing its reconfigured third-floor galleries, highlighting a new lounge with views of The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, an extended Bauhaus staircase, an updated menu in the remodeled Cafe 2 and expanded espresso bar, and a new second-floor Museum Store, which is where I meant this lovely young lady with a stylishly wild main of natural hair, with the equally outstanding name of Louris. She was appreciative that I asked her permission to take her photo, as she recounted that most folks don't. I was appreciative of the charity of her time and upbeat and accommodating disposition.

Young Man in BlackSoho, NYCOne of the nice things about photoshooting down in Soho is that everyone is so into style, that they are more than willing to be stopped to have their photos taken. (Some even have the knack to find the side of the street with the random photographers on it.)This gentleman had a cool name and a great story of how and why he wound up in NYC; but this was taken last October, and I can't remember a single thing he told me.

Tiye, PhotographerCentral Park, NYCTaking advantage of a rare, unseasonably warm February day, I grabbed my camera and dragged my physically addled body to Central Park. Turns out I want the only one to do so. I spotted two very stylish ladies on a grassy knoll, and to my surprise, the one with the really lovely hair was actually the photographer, and not the model — of this professional fashion shoot. Also turns out that the dynamically coifed young woman, named Tiye, is actually a cinematographer by trade. And a gracious human subject for my camera to boot.

Angela VisitsUpper East Side, NYCMy dear friend Angela decided to spend an early part of her birthday visiting me while I've been laid up in bed with a sustained hip/back injury. It was as if it was my birthday and her wit, company, kindness, warmth, and visage were presents for me. Glad that this time I got to capture her skin art as well as the already masterpieces that are her eyes and smile.
Rebecca Stands TallUpper East Side, NYCHad to catch up with my dear friend before she leaves New York City for good in a month. She may be diminutive in stature, but stands tall with wit, intelligence, charm, humor, and kindness. Starting to miss her already.
George Braith, Soul/Jazz SaxophonistUpper East Side, NYCUpon entering the just-opened new Second Avenue Subway I came upon saxophonist George Braith standing right next to the mural of him mosaic-ed into the stations second-level mezzanine wall.He is holding his invention, the Braithophone, which are two different horns (straight alto and soprano) mended together by extensions, valves and connections. He's got a discography twenty albums deep, dating back to 1963, and is long renown for being able to play multiple horns at once.
Tiff On SecondUpper East Side, NYCMy good friend Tiff (again, of 30+ years) graciously posing for me in front of the nearly completed, decade-long construction of the Second Avenue Subway in Manhattan, NYC. She makes for a very pretty picture in front of all that mess — she makes for a very pretty picture anywhere.
Opie, the "Bull-et"Aurora, ILMy dear friend who lives in Aurora, Illinois — along with her family —recently adopted into her home this very handsome basset hound/bulldog mixed breed puppy. (Hence, "Bull-et".) The whole family decide on calling him Opie, which he's taken to completely. I call him "Thunder Paws" because his low-but-solid center of gravity makes for thunderous thuds as he scampers around the house on huge paws he's months away from growing into. Here he enjoys a rare, brief respite from the attentions of everyone else in the household, and patiently models for my camera before taking a well-earned nap.

Anne-Marie at The MetUpper East Side, NYCGreat weather gets me out of the house. So does great company. And a great location. So it was a great thrill to meet a dear friend at the ever iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art on what felt like the first signs of autumnal temperatures.
Angela, Portrait, OneUpper East Side, NYCAnother visit from dear friend Angela mans another round of quick photos. I decided to effect an old school, retro look to the photo with a little de-saturation, a blue-to-orange gradient overlay, and some "noise" to give it a grain film feel.
Stephanie at Trash & VaudevilleEast Village, NYCStopping into Trash & Vaudeville (iconic NYC fashion boutique) to pick up some gifts for a friend I was visiting the next day, and Stephanie, one of their salespeople, couldn't have been more helpful, and more visually representative of the old school East Village cultural vibe.

Candice + IanUpper East Side, NYCI first met Candice at Dangerfield's. I was performing, she was an audience member. We were both teenagers — I think she may have been 14 and I 16/17 (back when the drinking age was 18 and being underage at a bar or club was "no big whoop"). This was even before we would become Dorrian's regulars, where Ian quickly became a fast friend as well, and we kept each other in great company — with many many backgammon games — for many many years. We see each other not nearly as often — maybe years between usually random meetings — but you'd never know it once we're hanging out again.

Summer on Jersey StreetSoho, NYCThis is my good friend Summer on one of my favorite streets in all of New York City — Jersey Street, which is just two very short blocks that still have plenty of character. Magic hour lighting inspired me to take this shot as we were walking from an event on our way to the subway to get back to the Upper East Side.

Heather in Carl Schurz ParkUpper East Side, NYChad a fun shoot recently revisiting with good friend Heather, who, along with her husband David, was one of the very first people I photographed with my new and most professional camera. This shoot was for headshots for her work as well as for a client friend of hers.Heather is fun to photograph as she seems to exude plenty of warmth, personality, and even a bit of mystery, with the minimalest of friendly expression.
Kristin Has Art In Her EyesUpper East Side, NYCFellow creative and dear friend Kristin and I met over a decade ago working for the same creative department at TIME Magazine. We've both gone on to pursue artistic endeavors on our own yet have stayed in close touch the entire time.We met this day to discuss collaborating on an art installation she was commissioned to do, and as if one couldn't tell by her spirit and demeanor that she was truly an artist through and through, they could definitely see it in the unique color spectrum of her eyes' irises.
Grinning HarrisonUpper East Side, NYCMy friend Harrison hired me to help him with a project chronicling all the elementary and preparatory schools he attending here in the city. All of them were on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. This is just a quick random capture of him as revisiting the academic stomping grounds of his youth obviously brought the kid out in him.

Nikki A. In HKHell's Kitchen, NYCI met Nikki on Facebook three years ago, but this day was the first time we ever met up in person. And as she is likewise an avid photography and photo enthusiast, we made a whole 5-hour morning of a photoshoot in the Hell's Kitchen area where she lives.A very fun time and she even makes for a natural (and naturally beautiful) model—which most photographers avoid being.
Mary Grace D. Wearing Glasses and a SmileUpper East Side, NYCI have plenty of friends I have known a very long time and who have, since that long time ago when I first knew them, have gone on to the other chapters of their lives that require them to not be able to be around their old friends nearly as often. But every once in a while they do make the effort and take the time to visit, or to at least let me know when they are in my neighborhood, and when they do I make every effort and take the time to go and see them. Such was the case most recently with my dear friend Mary Grace pictured here, who just seems to become ever lovelier over time.
Rockette LoveTimes Square, NYCI would never suffer being anywhere near Times Square at 5pm on a Monday right after a holiday weekend. unless it was to visit a dear friend, as I did this evening.Which makes it even more admirable to see this young lady maintain a convincingly genuine smile while being jostled by pedestrian traffic whizzing by—and into her, often—from every direction. Her face lit up Broadway nearly as much as the neon, and did indeed make me briefly forget that crowds and tourists make me miserable. :D

"Bag O' Doughnuts" and the SenatorUpper East Side, NYCSo, it seems of late that I've been enjoying more than a few "This is your life, Kerry Cheeseboro!" moments, as the old school friends keep popping up in my life.Today it was catching up with my dear good friends Tony and Rob who—yes, again—I've known for over 25 years! (Who knew when I chose all these folks to hang out with—way back in the 80s and 90s—that I had chosen so well!)
O'Leary & SonsUpper East Side, NYCAnother week, another sit down and catch up with a dear longtime friend. This time it's Tom who I've know for 25 years from the neighborhood. Now lives in Jersey but found himself in Yorkville for a brief spell and decided to have meal with his sons in his old stomping grounds. I just happened to walk through on my way home for the night. But we got to sit and chat for a whole hour—something that doesn't occur much, even in general, in this the age of social media, private messages, and texts.I have been loving being reminded that in a city with millions of people, the real connection is to be away from the computer, and out in the real world, where they exist. And where they, very possibly, can become a friend for life.
Happy, Fun WaitressUpper East Side, NYCThis shot is from a shoot I did for my KAC Food blog for a neighborhood restaurant called Cascabel Taqueria. I was just taking snapshots of the food, but was so enjoying the staff's service and personality that I thought I might try to capture it. I think I succeeded best here.
Simone & Son, Chris Jr.Upper East Side, NYCI am so overly fond of my past in no small part due to the world's most excellent people I had in it—and am still lucky to have. Here I surprised Simone, my friend of 30 years, while I happened to be a block away from a trunk show she was hosting. The added bonus was meeting her son, Chris Jr. (whose father I've known for the same 30 years), who is avid photographer, reader, and musician as well. A bright, kind young man—obviously due to great parenting.
Jessica On Her Way Back To LAUpper East Side, NYCIf you stay in the same place long enough you become very conveniently easy to find. Living on the same corner for 20 years makes it very easy for people to pop in from pretty much any place on the planet to know where to find me.Often, that reality is a burden. But now when it makes it easy for my favorite people in life to know how to catch up with me. My friend Jessica B. was in town from LA and was kind enough to visit me, meeting me at the restaurant where we used to work together 20 years ago.

Tom S.: Bassist, Writer Upper East Side, NYCMy very good friend Tom is one of a very few lucky individuals who not only has two passions that he gets to pursue, but can also enjoy them together, being able to, as an accomplished bass player, employ his love for and of music with his great style, wit, and acumen as a writer.
Former Co-Workers Katie & Emily VisitUpper East Side, NYCSome of my best and favorite longtime friends I have I know from the restaurants and bars where we've worked together. Lisa & Friend, Mid-JogCentral Park, NYCBumped into a good friend who recognized me while jogging by with a friend as I was in the Central Park doing some "research" as to how soon I could expect the leaves on the autumn trees to be at their most colorful while still on the branches. I was about a week too early, but these warm smiles of the colorful personalities of these two pretty ladies more than made up for the chilly early morning excursion.
